Riggins Residential Update:
At Riggins, We create an environment that is healthy, productive and safe. It is our intention to have a quality program where our residents gain a sense of pride; Our goal is to keep our residents lives meaningful and productive.
Several of our late summer/fall activities have included enjoying some outdoor recreation such a S'more night, Art splash at a local park, the Harvest Festival at Meadow Farm, outdoor concerts, and the big family picnic in Hanover. As the weather gets cooler whe have had the opportunity to enjoy indoor activities like holiday dances and weekly evening activities at the day support, such as playing bingo, being creative by painting pumpkins, to decorate wreaths for the houses, designing picture frames, decorating gingerbread ornaments, enjoying taco night and monthly music therapy sessions. We will continue to stay busy in the fall/winter months activities such as dances, movies, indoor concerts, museums, dinners, and we also have a gym membership with Cool Springs church to keep everyone active.
Riggins Day Support Update:
We have recently changed the layout of the outings at the day support to make everyone's day more routine and structured but also introducing everyone to new experiences. Knowing how important it is to support our community, we have increased our volunteer projects to include several different food bank opportunities through The Way, and Hanover Evangelical Church, we visit several nursing homes during the week, we also participate in recycling, and not forgetting our furry friends, we continue to make dog biscuits for the SPCA. Everyone enjoys weekly shopping and refreshments. Exercise and maintaining a healthy life style is so important, so we have choice of visiting Cool Springs Church to walk the Track, utilize the exercise room, and play basketball or the YMCA where participants can go swimming. We have participants who bowl on a non-disabled bowling league. Participants enjoy visiting libraries, museums, and the occasssional lunch out. We are getting ready to take several participants to Norfolk for a holiday cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk.
