Day Support
Riggins Day Support is a place for people to meet and make friends. We strive to teach new skills and expand upon existing ones. We cater to support the needs of those we serve. The staff of Riggins feels that our clientele need to feel productive in their daily lives, and many of our participants will benefit from the small group atmosphere. We also understand that routine is important and sometimes shorter periods of time doing an activity is best for most individuals. We want to respect what works best for each individual and support that. We will take the time to evaluate each individual and pair people with like skills and interests. We will provide both art and music therapy so our participants will have the opportunity to express themselves.
Craft projects are always a hit with people of all ages and skill levels. We hope to also allow our participants to volunteer and give to others by visiting and taking items to the veterans in our local veterans hospital.
We will provide a computer area for our particpants so that they can learn to navigate the internet to communicate via email with their families and friends. The computer is also a good way for some of our folks to communicate when they do not have the words to do so.
Riggins will also teach basic gardening to our participants who wish to learn more about horticulture. We will work in a green house where we can plant seeds and watch plants and flowers grow.
We will be teaching healthy life styles through diet and exercise, as well as respecting ourselves and others. We will support individuals with learning relaxation techniques, support personal hygiene, and healthy relationships.
We will also provide a sensory stimulation for those individuals who may need those supports.
We hope to teach many life skills through purchasing/money skills and reading and word recognition. Our participants will also be provided the opportunity to take part in field trips to area attractions such as the metro zoo, science museum, aviation museum, local parks restaurants, nail and hair salons/barber shops and bowling alley to name a few.
Riggins will provide choice to our participants and will strive to keep each person active and productive each day. Our day will begin at 8:00am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
